Print of Menai Strait Prawn in Red InkI picked up this prawn from my friend Andy in December, he was clearing down his bait tanks on the Menai and had pulled out half a dozen prawns and a pollock. He gifted me this little guy and he went in the freezer until I had some time after Christmas to get in the studio and print. I've printed this on an A5 sheet of Chinese calligraphy paper using an acrylic ink. It takes a long time to prepare and ink a prawn and then position it ready to print.

The ink is both light first and permanent

This print is on Thai Mulberry Paper and I've used a Gold acrylic ink which is lightfast and permanent

I then press a second sheet of paper onto the back of the print and allow the two to day overnight and they become bonded together

the paper is cockled and wouldn’t lay flat in a frame

This print measures  59x34cm

This final process not only flattens and strengthens the paper but also gives the print a refined

This is wooden block that is traditionally used for signatures in Japan

Like a lobster it's much more 3 dimensional than a fish so there is a lot of work to do making sure things don't slip and slide around
